My startup crashes ended immediately after steam finally said it replaced 3 files, and after telling me aritang was arigh until i deleted the scripts. Once in this game, I had to delete scripts inside of a folder since validating files was not replacing them until i did that.

That's worked for me once or twice in the past, along with other bethesda games when issues came up. You could also have tried backing up your inis, and then deleting them and running the launcher again and then the game to reset the inis. And since you got it running in compat probably not an overlay issue.
